Read Genesis chapters 12-16 In today's chapters we begin to learn about Abram.  This descendant of Adam is called by God from somewhere near modern day Iraq or Assyria to travel to the promised land, the land of Canaan, modern day Israel.  He is there for a brief time before a famine forces him to move on to Egypt.  Before entering Egypt, he and his wife, Sarai, agree to act as brother and sister out of fear for Abram's life.  Pharaoh takes Sarai into his company because of her beauty.  When Pharaoh learns of what Abram has done he returns...

Read Genesis chapters 9-11 The family of Noah and all of the animals have disembarked from the ark.  Noah offered sacrifice in thanksgiving to God and God makes a covenant with Noah.  God promises to never again destroy the earth by water and sets up a reminder of this covenant with a rainbow. We would do well to understand that a covenant is not merely a deal or contract.  Rather, it is an exchange of people or exchange of self.  God promises to be with Noah and to bless his family.  Noah agrees to continue "walking with God."  We will...

Day 2 - 90 Day Adventure through the Bible

Read Genesis Chapters 5-8 Today, again, we are presented first with a birds-eye view before zooming back into the main story.  In chapter 5 we see the genealogy of Adam's descendants to Noah.  You'll notice in the reading a consistent almost rhythmic pattern as the genealogy is told.  There are only two exceptions and these are meant to get our attention.  The first occurs in verses 21-24.  Here we learn about Enoch.  Enoch, we are told was a man of God, he walked with God (like Adam).  We are also led to believe that he didn't die but was rather...
