Asking God for Signs

Asking God for Signs

Mark 1:14-20 If you are like me, you have probably asked God for a sign at one time in your life. I can think of at least a dozen times when I have asked God for some sort of sign. I have asked for signs that would help me make a decision. I have asked for signs to show me what I was to do in life. I have asked for signs to help me win the lottery - hey, I'm a weak, sinful, selfish human person who is still loved by God! God is patient when we ask for...

My Beloved Son

My Beloved Son

The Baptism of Our Lord Luke 3:13-17 I have always been confused by the arrangement of the liturgical feasts after Christmas. Not that they're in the wrong order but in the fact that we jump from the infancy to adulthood in a matter of days. Couple that with the ingrained idea of Baptism usually being administered to infants and you can see how I can easily be confused. Today the Church celebrates the Baptism of Jesus. We must withdraw to our own wilderness, a room in the back of the house, a chapel, a walk down the street, a park, or any other...

God will provide the sacrifice. A cry, Behold the lamb. Pharaoh's heart is hardened, Mercy ends in the land. The angel passes over, A cry, Behold the lamb. John by waters edge, Many baptized by his hand. A dove descends upon the Christ, A cry, Behold the Lamb. The Heavens all cry out, Here is the Son of Man. Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord, A cry, Behold the Lamb. Another Christ at...

Unanswered Prayers

Unanswered Prayers

Whenever I take the time to look back on my life I am amazed at the goodness of God. Especially so in light of my wandering ways. When I look back at the things I asked for and what was given to me instead I am filled with praise and thanksgiving. Like the country song says, "some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers." Scripture tells us that God's ways are not our ways and sometimes this just plain stinks! Yet, God is a loving Father who knows what is best for us. He has a plan for us. And...
